Artistry

Look at these screenshots of the Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray release:

The backgrounds in those screenshots are just gorgeous! Unfortunately, I don't think my store got the Blu-ray release of this, just the DVD version. I'm also wondering why the very recent release of The Sword in the Stone is still in a 4:3 aspect ratio, even though it was originally in 1.37:1 [Edit: In the comments, my friend Robbie set me straight on this]. Hopefully Sleeping Beauty is setting a precedent for future Disney re-releases. (On a mildly unrelated note: FUCK the Disney Vault!)

My store didn't get Beetlejuice or Young Frankenstein on Blu-ray either... Oh, well. I wouldn't have had time to watch them anyway. I didn't have time to watch Don't Mess with the Zohan or The Happening either, but those are films I didn't really care to see anyway.

Also, I found Jenna Fischer in a screenshot for the 40 Year Old Virgin Blu-ray release (look on the extreme left).

I'm excited for this as well, as far as sword and the stone is concerned, it was animated in 1.37:1 which isn't too far from 4x3 full frame (1.33:1) correct?

A quick google at found me an article stating that only Sleeping Beauty and Lady and the Tramp were animated in cinemascope and until 1977, everything else was still animated in 1.33:1.

One thing I have to say about disney is that despite the ridiculous "disnet vault" marketing startegy, they seem to get it right.

FYI I got a the original model 60 GB PS3. my (old) roommate James had to sure Tim (the guy you met) for rent he owed him from way back when. Tim gave him his PS3 as part of the compensation, he already had a PS3, I bought it off him for $212 + I paid for his portion of our last round of bills

so yeah...blu ray is freaked sweet. Kat and I picked up Pans Labrynth as our first BD purchase, phenomenal stuff all around.

That was super interesting and helpful info. I guess I should have figured out that 1.33 and 1.37 weren't far off...

The only Blu-ray movie I own so far is Batman Begins. Looks a bit soft, but the Dark Knight preview is spectacular. Of course, animated films like Chicken Little and Meet the Robinsons look fantastic too. I can't wait to have Wall-E and the Incredibles on Blu-ray.

I've been dorking out over hi-def digest reviews (http://www.highdefdigest.com/), lately. Apparently everything from Pixar is teh sex.

Yeah, I've read a bunch of those reviews too. I'm going to see about renting the Nightmare Before Christmas on Blu-ray today. I'm super excited about that.

I watched about 2 minutes worth of Indiana Jones & TKOTCS last night by skipping around. Looks really good, but I'm don't want to watch it.
